Fat-soluble vitamins, the A, D, E and K group, do not slip into your bloodstream directly the way water-soluble nutrients do. They are too large and too oily to cross into your blood capillaries.
Instead they are packaged into droplets called chylomicrons and absorbed into the lacteals. A lacteal is a lymphatic capillary, one sitting inside the core of every fingerlike villus in your small intestine.

Your gut bacteria reshape your bile acids, and bile acids are what emulsify dietary fat so it can form those chylomicrons in the first place.
A disrupted bacterial population shifts that bile acid pool. Less emulsification means less fat broken down, fewer chylomicrons built, and less for the lacteals to carry.
Now picture how you actually take the capsule. On an empty stomach, with water, no fat and little bile released, so the lymphatic uptake had almost nothing to carry.

Mouse research has shown that gut microbiota help regulate the junctions of lacteals and keep them able to take up fat. That is animal work and mechanism-based reasoning, not a measured human outcome.

Here is the move. Take your fat-soluble supplement with your fattiest meal of the day, and pair that fat with a fibrous plant: salmon or a spoon of olive oil alongside a cup of lentils or a bowl of leafy greens. Then walk for ten minutes.
The fiber feeds the bacteria that shape your bile acid pool, and bile is what emulsifies the fat so chylomicrons can form, which is your microbiome side. The fat then loads the lacteals, and the walk's calf contractions and moving diaphragm pump that lymph up the thoracic duct, which is your lymphatic side. If your levels stay low despite this, see your doctor, because persistent deficiency can point to absorption disorders that need testing. Two systems, one sequence.
